  4. You must, must, must read this file before you use DeZkTop v2.0.  If
  5. you tried running DeZkTop before reading this file and got into trouble
  6. then that serves you right!
  7.  
  8. The documentation for DeZkTop is supplied in Word 6 format as
  9. dezktop.doc.  Hopefully most people will have access to Word or to the
  10. Word viewer.  You can get the latter free from Microsoft.  As a last
  11. resort I have saved the text from the Word file as dezktop.txt which you
  12. can read using Notepad, however this doesn't have the pictures in it.
  13. If you haven't used DeZkTop before then have a quick browse through the
  14. documentation and then jump in.  If you have used an earlier version of
  15. DeZkTop and especially if you are one of the large crowd who is using a
  16. beta version of v2.0 then see below.

  29. Ideally send cheques, UK banks will honour cheques drawn against foreign
  30. banks, or alternatively just send cash.  If you cannot get sterling or
  31. US dollars then just send whatever comes to hand, IÆve never been known
  32. to refuse any form of money!

  35. you can register by typing GO SWREG.  The number for DeZkTop is 2943.
  36. SWREG might claim the version number to be less than 2.0, if so just
  37. ignore it as a single registration entitles you to use all current and
  38. future versions.

  41. DeZkTop v2.0.2 users
  42. ====================
  43.  
  44. This is a minor upgrade to DeZkTop intended to make it fit better
  45. with the new shell on Win 95 and NT.  The changes are:
  46.  
  47. - DeZkTop now adds an icon to the task bar.  Right click on this
  48. icon to get the DeZkTop main menu.
  49.  
  50. - If you left click on the desktop and hold the mouse button down
  51. for longer than the double-click timeout then the DeZkTop menu will
  52. not appear when the mouse button is released.  This allows you to
  53. drag around and edit the new shell "floaters" with the DeZkTop menu
  54. popping up and getting in the way.
  55.  
  56. - There's a new option in the DeZkTop Options dialog box, "Fast
  57. rsponse to left click".  If you uncheck this then after left
  58. clicking on the desktop the top DeZkTop menu will not appear until
  59. after the double-click timeout has elapsed.  Hence when you double
  60. click on the desktop the DeZkTop top menu will not flash briefly
  61. into existance.  The price to pay for this is delayed response to
  62. mouse clicks.

  65. DeZkTop v2.0 beta users
  66. =======================
  67. I've made one change to the release version of DeZkTop 2.0 that will
  68. cause you problems.  The data used to be kept in a subdirectory called
  69. DeZkTop20, but it was pointed out to me that Netware 3 file servers
  70. cannot manage long file names so I changed the directory name to
  71. DeZkTop.v20.  Before running the release version of DeZkTop simply copy
  72. or rename your DeZkTop20 directory to DeZkTop.v20.

  75. DeZkTop v1.8 users
  76. ==================
  77. If you are using DeZkTop v1.8 then you will need to use the convert
  78. program to convert your v1.8 data to v2.0 format.  Note that the
  79. conversion will not affect your existing data in any way, and you can
  80. continue to use both versions of DeZkTop if you want.

  82. To convert your data make sure neither version of DeZkTop is running and
  83. run convert.exe.  This will display a dialog box with 4 fields in it.

  85. Path to old DeZkTop files:
  86. --------------------------
  87. This is the directory which your DeZkTop v1.8 data directory is in.  By
  88. default v1.8 used the directory \windows\DeZkTop, if this is the case then
  89. enter \windows in this field, ie enter the path but leave off the final
  90. \DeZkTop.  The convert program will do its best to guess the correct value
  91. for this field, normally you shouldn't have to change it.

  93. Path to new DeZkTop files:
  94. --------------------------
  95. This is the directory where you want your DeZkTop v2.0 data directory to
  96. be.  By default v2.0 will use the directory \windows so just enter
  97. \windows (with the drive name if necessary).  The convert program will
  98. do its best to guess the correct value for this field, normally you
  99. shouldn't have to change it.
  100.  
  101. Old name for desktop
  102. --------------------
  103. The convert program will only convert one desktop at a time and you
  104. need to enter the desktop name here.  If you haven't used the multiple
  105. desktop facility then you will only have a single desktop called
  106. Default.
  107.  
  108. New name for desktop
  109. --------------------
  110. This would normally be the same as the old name for desktop field.
  111.  
  112. When you are happy click OK and the data should be converted.  If you
  113. are still a bit unsure about what to enter in the first two fields have
  114. a look in the documentation where it describes how DeZkTop stores its
  115. data and that shoud clarify things a bit.
  116.
